Overview
Forming the epicenter of all activity in Palo Alto, Downtown Palo Alto is a community where power and prestige mingle with ultimate convenience. Numerous companies have offices or storefronts along University Avenue, one of the most dynamic streets in Silicon Valley, and residents enjoy access to Caltrain, nightlife, entertainment, and cuisines representing cultures all over the world. Split into two sub-neighborhoods of Downtown North and University South, Downtown Palo Alto creates one of the most eclectic communities in all of the Bay Area.
This neighborhood initially began to bloom at the turn of the nineteenth century while Stanford University was under construction. Today, the area’s legacy as a heavily mixed-use community remains. Commercial and retail buildings closely adjoin residential developments and apartment complexes, imparting a big-city feel to a relatively small area. Despite its constant whir of business, Downtown Palo Alto is home to a handful of parks and also borders San Francisquito Creek; these features provide a relaxed, suburban undertone to the area. Housing is extremely varied in this neighborhood, ranging from century-old homes to modern condominiums. However, buyers covet Downtown Palo Alto for its premier access to shopping, dining, and transportation, not to mention proximity to world-class companies and attractions like Stanford University.
