Overview

Like many of its contemporaries on the Mid-Peninsula, Lindenwood is a neighborhood in transition. A stark contrast rests between its original Ranch-style houses and recently built mega-mansions. Median sales prices vary widely; “teardown” properties form the low end of the spectrum at $3 million or more, while brand-new homes often sell for over $7 million. Original homes with desirable lots are highly sought-after as buyers in this neighborhood typically want to build custom homes.

 

The origin of Lindenwood is Linden Towers, the 600-acre, 19th-century summer retreat of mining magnate James C. Flood. Flood’s influence persists in its trademark meandering streets which can tend to make the neighborhood difficult to navigate. Relics such as lampposts and fountains from Flood’s estate still grace private and public spaces throughout the neighborhood. Residents appreciate Lindenwood because it incorporates the best of both rural and urban living, allowing them to enjoy the privacy of the large lots and wide, tree-lined streets while taking advantage of its close proximity to Downtown Menlo Park. Lindenwood also offers an active neighborhood association, and an annual neighborhood party replete with food and music is a highlight of Lindenwood living.
