Overview
Renowned for its iconic water tower, the city of Campbell is a more serene, suburban alternative to bustling nearby communities like San Jose. The restful nature of the city and its many examples of historic architecture seem to infuse it with a subtle nostalgia, constantly harkening back to yesteryear. However, Campbell’s leafy neighborhoods still manage to lure modern residents on account of the city’s plentiful amenities and central South Bay setting.
A Diverse Background
Campbell was founded and settled by the Campbell family, who arrived in the area in 1846 and developed a grain farm on land that forms present-day Downtown Campbell. Orchards sprang up throughout the community and major canneries were built and thrived, preparing local fruit to be distributed around the world. Campbell blossomed into an important railway hub, continuing to flourish in population up through the 1950s, when urbanization established the city as a prominent suburb for the emerging tech and electronics industries.
Modern Adaptation
The city of Campbell does not boast a reputation for life-changing tech innovations like other Bay Area powerhouses. Nevertheless, it is still well-regarded as the home of eBay and the South Bay headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Since the mid-1800s, the community has owned an evolving role in local history, serving first as an agricultural center, then transitioning into railway commerce. Currently, its position as an upscale residential community is cemented by strategic access to Light Rail, bus lines, and several major commuter routes, making it a prime option for busy modern workers.
Leisure & Recreation
Like many Silicon Valley communities, Campbell is designed to allow residents to enjoy many suburban amenities without having to leave the city limits. The serene, well-appointed downtown area teems with popular boutiques and restaurants, and hosts a farmers market every Sunday. Residents also have easy proximity to multiple shopping plazas, including Pruneyard Shopping Center, a large, open-air destination appointed with shopping, fine dining, and a revitalized dine-in movie theater.
Local recreational trails connect residents to picturesque parklands, and extend all the way to scenic Vasona Reservoir in Los Gatos. For those who don’t mind venturing into other areas, popular attractions in San Jose like Santana Row, Valley Fair, and Westgate Center are all within an easy drive.
Suburban Amenities
As a suburb within Silicon Valley, the city of Campbell furnishes everything a modern family needs to live comfortably from day to day. Not only does it offer recreation, shopping centers, and a wide selection of restaurants, but it also places resident commuters close to top companies. Last but certainly not least, it provides an assortment of academic options, including nearly 15 private schools and an extensive public education system, which encompasses two districts and dozens of schools.

Residents of Campbell prefer living in this area over neighboring communities due to its quiet harmony of laid-back character and urban accessibility.
